Certified Organic Raw Milk

Sunny Cove Farm is a small grass based family dairy farm producing high quality milk since 1977 in Alfred, New York. Dotty and Jerry Snyder transitioned to organic milk production in 2002 and are certified by the Northeast Organic Farming Association of New York (NOFA-NY) for organic milk, organic beef, organic maple syrup, and organic apples.

Horizon Organic recognized Sunny Cove Farm for their exceptional milk quality in 2003, 2004, 2005 and Jerry was honored to be a workshop presenter on producing quality milk at the NOFA-NY 24th annual conference in Syracuse, NY. On October 1, 2006 Sunny Cove farm started shipping their milk to Organic Valley and continues to focus on producing the highest quality milk for your enjoyment.

In March 2008 Sunny Cove Farm was recognized by Organic Valley with a Milk Quality Award and also started voluntary weekly testing of raw milk at Quality Milk Production Services Central Laboratory in Ithaca, NY. These results are based on real time PCR testing and give test results for pathogens with a two day turn around.

Many people have come to the farm desiring to purchase raw milk, so after meeting all New York State requirements, on January 13, 2006 we were granted a permit to sell certified organic raw milk by the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets. This permit required enrollment in Quality Milk Production Services, which tests to certify that the milk is free from all pathogens.

We are pleased to offer to the public certified organic raw milk at the farm, 1444 Randolph Road Alfred Station, New York, 14803, on Tuesday and Friday afternoons from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. If needed we can also offer our organic raw milk for sale at other times by calling 607-587-9282 for an appointment.

You may bring your clean containers to be filled in your presence or we have a supply of containers available for purchase. The current price is $5 per gallon and $3 per half gallon.

Raw milk has not been pasteurized or homogenized and contains all the food value created by healthy grazing cows. Organic Raw Milk means - No Hormones, No Antibiotics, No Steroids - from Grass fed, Organically Raised cows.

In May 2008 Senator Cathy Young sponsored bill S 6827 in the New York State Senate to open the sale of raw milk in retail stores. The present regulations stipulate only on farm sales are permitted. With the increasing demand for raw milk and only a limited number of dairy farms with permits to sell raw milk in New York State, this law would make quality raw milk more readily available to the consuming public through Natural food stores and other retail stores. Assemblyman Dan Burling has also sponsored the same bill in the New York State Assembly, A 10870. These will both have the opportunity to be voted on until the session ends on June 23, 2008.
