Mindful of One Another: Finding Unity in a Post-Election Season

How quickly we can lose sight of our WHY, get caught up in the noise and become apathetic towards our neighbors. Last week my heart was grieved by the behavior of some, the fear mongering, the flaunting and the lack of empathy to those who believe differently.

In these weeks after election day, it’s a perfect moment to reflect on how we interact with those around us—especially those who might see things differently. It’s natural to have strong feelings about the issues that matter to us, but part of building a community of respect and mutual care is learning to live alongside people who might see things differently.

At Sunny Cove Farm, we hold a vision for creating a space where all are welcome—where everyone can come as they are, share a conversation, and enjoy the abundance of what’s been nurtured in the soil. We believe that, even in times when it feels as though people are divided by lines of ideology or belief, we can choose to cultivate understanding, empathy, and a spirit of welcome.

In a world that so often focuses on differences, being mindful of each other helps remind us of our shared humanity. Rather than seeing each person as aligned with a “side,” we can choose to see each person as someone with their own experiences, values, and hopes. By treating one another with kindness and respect, we begin to create a community rooted in connection instead of division.

Post-election, this can look like simple, intentional acts: listening with an open mind, taking time to understand one another’s perspectives, and choosing not to let differences create distance. Unity doesn’t mean we all have to agree; it simply means that we’re willing to honor one another’s dignity and worth, regardless of those differences.

So as we move forward, may we each create spaces in our lives—on farms, in neighborhoods, or wherever we are—that are places of peace and understanding. May we hold wide our arms to welcome each person, and let that choice be a light of unity in our communities.
