Soil Starting Mix

It is my favorite time of year, seed starting time!  I have been busy working in the greenhouse and starting lots of lovely plant babies.  Many ask for my recipe of seed starting mix and I am happy to share!

To make a seed starting mix, you will need the following ingredients:

- 1 part peat moss

- 1 part vermiculite

- 1 part perlite

- 1/2 part compost

- 1/2 part sand

Instructions:

1. Begin by mixing equal parts of peat moss, vermiculite, and perlite in a large container. These three ingredients will provide the necessary drainage, aeration, and water retention to your seedlings.

2. Next, add half part of compost to the mixture. Compost will provide the necessary nutrients to your seedlings.

3. Finally, add half part of sand to the mixture. Sand will provide weight to the mix and help to anchor the seedlings.

4. Mix all the ingredients thoroughly until they are well combined.

Your seed starting mix is now ready to use. Fill your seed starting trays with the mix, and plant your seeds according to the instructions on the seed packets.

Happy gardening! I also wanted to extend an invitation to you and anyone else who might be interested in our upcoming Zoom gardening class.
